evidently death cab for cutie got the indie-rock memo that vocal looping is the next biggest thing. at about 30 seconds in, he records a vocal phrase, plays it once (as opposed to just singing it again), and then turns off the loop. amazing. it looks like he was trying to do more layering with it (as he does at the end of the song) but couldnt get it to work in the first round, for whatever...
