the other day i tried to send back a MIDI/DINSYNC converter mod kit, and just received a passionate response from the manufacturer. for people who are interested in seeing white guys passionately argue about synthesizers, please read on:

First thing, I asked if it was sealed in the bag and you said “yes it’is….” That’s not true, the bag was ripped open, meaning that even if it was what it was supposed to be, it would have to be run down the end of the line again to be tested and inspected with the test jig, meter and synth, which isn’t feasible because none of those things are here because the production is finished for good. Can’t pass opened product on to another customer as new without a full retest and recalibration.

Second, I’d presumed that you said “midijack”, it was the product that was released in 2000 as the MIDIJACK (internal MIDI-CV converter with bypass), later renamed “Original MIDIJACK” after the other models came out (MIDIJACK II, Moogiestyle MIDIJACK, MIDIJACK DINSYNC, MIDIJACK 303, etc.), which most everyone still calls the MIDIJACK anyway. This isn’t that, it is a MIDIJACK DINSYNC for drum machines, not MIDI-CV. It might have rung some bells with you when I’d said “P.S. Be mindful of the severe design and quality problems with Doepfer MIDI/CV units before you dump the MIDIJACK…” and when you were holding a product that is $99 when new with free shipping worldwide and I’d offered a reduced buyback price of $90, which makes little sense. I think this might be the unit that was recently on eBay and went unsold for $20. There are maybe 3 Original MIDIJACKs in the world and no more being made and it’s up to $189 versus a 15+ year supply of MIDIJACK DINSYNCs (that one only sold a few units/year, tops). The one and only time one was being bought back was to have a 4th one available.
